Payroll Supervisor

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervision of Departmental Staff

  • Responsible for supervising and organizing all payroll processing procedures ensuring accurate and timely processing/data entry of time sheets, payroll deductions and other transactions
  • Supervise payroll personnel
  • Evaluate performance of staff, prepare performance appraisals and provide ongoing coaching and training to staff

Data Entry and Verification

  • Enter and audit payroll data, ensuring accuracy
  • Run payroll and time and labor processes
  • Prepare and process off-cycle manual check payments
  • Assistthe Payroll Manager with 1042 process and other tax related items.

Training, Testing and Compliance

  • Review and monitor timekeeping and approval compliance with UMMS and UHealth Solutions policies and procedures
  • Assist the Payroll Manager with organizational time and labor training
  • Collaborate with auditors as required; ensures payroll records are properly maintained to meet audit specifications and federal and state guidelines
  • Participate in upgrades/tax changes to the HR/payroll system when necessary
  • Validateand test system changes

Internal Controls, Monitoring and Process Improvement

  • Participate in developing policies and procedures for ensuring integrity of employee information is appropriately maintained and disseminated
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the Time and Labor and Payroll functions
  • Identify process improvement initiatives and define standards for new processes
  • Assist the Payroll Manager with establishing and implementing control procedures

Collaboration with Others

  • Collaborate closely and cooperatively with the fiscal offices to ensure fiscal requirements are met, particularly at fiscal year-end
  • Collaborate with HR and UITS
  • Perform other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of payroll experience
  • Conceptual and analytical skills to develop solutions and recommendations
  • Communication skills, both oral and written, necessary to interact with all organizational levels within and outside the Medical School

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
